The Monumental Cemetery of Bonaria is not just a burial site active since Punic-Roman times, but an open-air museum that holds the soul of Cagliari. With FUTOUR, we embarked on a journey to reconnect this space with its community. Together with the Municipality and a pool of experts, we created a process that turned conservation into a social dialogue. Instead of limiting ourselves to architectural restoration, we listened to the territory, shaping a collective narrative that restored citizens’ pride in such a precious asset. We mapped residents’ experiences and worked on the place’s identity, bringing forgotten stories to light to define a new perspective for use, where historical past merges with contemporary identity.
Our work exceeded technical expectations, producing not only a solid Technical and Economic Feasibility Plan for the restoration but a strategic vision for the future. We transformed bureaucratic management into socio-economic opportunity, creating plans for cultural and tourist enhancement that allow the site to breathe again as an integral part of the city.
