Tackle the challenge of identity and belonging for children of immigrant families in Catalonia, defining collaborative and concrete actions for the 2021-2024 Migration Plan.
After the 2017 terrorist attack on Barcelona’s Rambla, the issue of integration became urgent. EAPC and SIMC asked us to transform this social complexity into an opportunity. We led an Innovation Camp involving 48 talents from the “quadruple helix”—public administration, academia, industry, and civil society—to redesign the sense of belonging in a pluralistic society. We didn’t just talk: we orchestrated a co-creation path to bring out practical solutions. We worked on four critical challenges: public participation, inter-cultural interaction, education, and job opportunities. Our role was that of facilitators, creating an ecosystem of trust where different ideas turned into a shared roadmap for the future of Catalan integration.
The result was a real strategic impact: we generated concrete prototypes, from mentorship projects to anti-racism programs, which became an integral part of the 2021-2024 Citizenship and Migration Plan. We didn’t just produce documents; we triggered a paradigm shift. Thanks to our intervention, EAPC boosted its “Research Driver” program, demonstrating that evidence-based, co-designed policies are the key to solving complex social challenges.
