Reach the “zero incidents” goal by promoting an active safety culture in the workplace for all employees and companies working with the ASPI group.

What we did

To achieve the ‘zero incidents’ goal, we designed and facilitated a co-creation and prototyping journey aimed at developing and testing new active safety processes. The initiative covered the entire work ecosystem – from construction sites and road maintenance, to design and procurement – extending also to the leisure and domestic sphere.
The journey involved 50 internal high-potential talents (the ‘LED’ group) through a series of strategic activities: an online opening workshop (World Cafe), team building sessions, four online workshops for action plan development, stakeholder interviews based on the Theory U Sensing Journey, and an in-person ‘Safety Walk’ workshop. The latter utilized LEGO® Serious Play® for prototyping, culminating in the final presentation of the results to the Board of Directors and the CEO.

The journey included: an online opening workshop (World Cafe), four facilitated online workshops to develop action plans, stakeholder interviews based on Theory U Sensing Journey principles, an in-person “Safety Walk” workshop that used LEGO® Serious Play® for prototyping and storyboard development, and the final presentation of the prototypes to the Board of Directors and the CEO.

Results

The program gained the support of the Board of Directors, increased management ownership, and led to the expansion of the internal LED program.
Eight prototypes for active safety were co-created. The #ActiveSafety_4HOME prototype was selected to be applied across the entire organization, involving 9,300 employees and their families.

Quantitative impact (2021-2023): incident frequency decreased by 45%, Safety Walks increased by 302%, participation in the Group Safety Week grew by 253%, and safety coaches increased by 94%.
The ASPI project won the prestigious Platinum Facilitation Impact Award (FIA) from the IAF (https://iaf-world.awardsplatform.com/gallery/vkKDJKKl/LbBYkBwk).
